Sinéad M. Madden is a systems scientist and modeller specialising in hybrid simulation for complex social, environmental, and health challenges. She is the founder of Hybrid Simulation Modelling, a research and consultancy lab that integrates System Dynamics (SD), Agent-Based Modelling (ABM), and Discrete Event Simulation (DES) to design decision-support tools for policymakers, planners, and organisations.
Currently completing her PhD in Systems Science & Mathematical Modelling at University Limerick, Sinéad’s research portfolio includes the Hemp in Agriculture for Carbon Sequestration (HACS) model for climate mitigation, and MIDCARE, a mixed-methods simulation framework for improving acute and emergency healthcare planning. Her work combines demand forecasting, behavioural health economics, and capacity planning to address equity and efficiency in complex systems.
An Outstanding Scholar Award recipient from UL’s Kemmy Business School, receiving a 1.1. in Honors degree in Supply Chain Management, Sinéad has built strong modelling networks through initiatives like the SD4 Peer Mentoring Group, which supports early-career modellers globally. She has delivered training and workshops on modelling, simulation and participatory policy design to mixed audiences of academics, clinicians, and decision-makers.
Her publications span peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, and collaborative research outputs, covering topics from sustainable agriculture to healthcare equity. She is an active member of the International System Dynamic Society (ISDS), European Social Simulation Association (ESSA), and the Health Management Institute of Ireland.
